Brown sugar seized in Balasore district

Brown sugar, valued at Rs 1.2 crore, has been seized from a house during police raid in Balasore district leading to the arrest of a woman.

This was the second major seizure of brown sugar in Balasore district in less than ten days.

A police team raided a house in Arad Bazar under Sahadev Khunta police station limit late last night on the basis of a tip-off and seized the brown sugar weighing about 1.2 kg, Balasore superintendent of police Niti Sekhar said.

The police team led by Inspector In-Charge of Sahadev Khunta police station Pragyan Mohanty, seized the brown sugar kept in small packets.
 

A woman, identified as Sanwar Bibi, has been arrested in this connection, the SP said.

Investigation is in progress to ascertain the woman's links with drug racket.

On May 28 last, excise officials had seized 930 grams of brown sugar from the same area.
