City police claimed to have busted an international gang of drug peddlers with the arrest of three persons, including a Nigerian and a woman, and seized brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore.

Acting on a tip-off, police nabbed three members of the gang from a hotel here yesterday, police sources said today.

The trio was identified as Jones Olivers (48), a Nigerian, Poonam (45), a resident of Delhi, and Praveen Rajguru (40), a native of Madhya Pradesh's Mandsaur district.

Rajguru had arrived here with 509 gram of brown sugar, valued at Rs 1 crore in the international market, from Mandsaur to deliver it to Olivers and Poonam, both of whom had come to the hotel from New Delhi, the sources said.

According to them, Poonam worked as an interpretor of the Nigerian national. Efforts were on to find out their other links.

Nigeria's embassy in New Delhi is being contacted to find out more details about Olivers, they added.
