The displaced Brus of Mizoram, sheltered in six evacuee camps in Tripura's North district, today started exercising their franchise through postal ballots.

As the Brus are voters of Mizoram, the Election Commission has set up six postal ballot facilitation centers in the evacuee camps where ballots were being cast in the presence of an Assistant Returning Officer from Mizoram, election officials said.

About 35,000 displaced people are now sheltered in six camps in Naisinghpara, Ashapara, Hamshapara, Hezacherra, Khakchan and Kasco.

Of them, 11,500 voters are eligible to cast their votes and the entire voting process will be completed on April three.

Mizoram officials would carry the postal ballots to that Mizoram for counting on May 16, the sources said.
