BSF and NCB seizes 5 Kilograms Opium in Malda

Acting on a tip-off, officials of South Bengal Frontier of BSF and Narcotics Control Bureau, Kolkata, during a joint operation intercepted one person and recovered 5 kilograms Opium from his possession here today, senior PRO of BSF RPF Jaswal said.

The team intercepted 23-year-old Bijoy Ghosh from Binnagar Bazar area within limits of Baishnabnagar police station today early morning, when Ghosh was travelling towards Farakka on a motorcycle to deliver the Opium to somebody there. Farakka is located in neighbouring Murshidabad district.

On searching him, the joint team found a plastic packet on him where the Opium was kept. Bijoy Ghosh, who is also a resident of Farakka was handed over to NCB officials for further investigation.
 

The BSF spokesperson said more than 13 kilograms of narcotic substances were seized and nine smugglers arrested during the last one year.

In another incident yesterday, in Malda's English Bazar area, the police recovered 30 kilograms of Ganja from two persons - Rafikul Alam and Zahirul Islam. They were later remanded to three days police custody when produced at Malda Court.
