Raju, who was here to inaugurate an NCC academy, said he would soon take up with Defence Minister A K Antony the matter of recruitment on the basis of capability and merit instead of population criteria.
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was also present.
Raju informed Badal that he was alive to the problems of ex-servicemen, who constituted a sizeable chunk of state's population.
