A BSF constable was arrested on the charge of raping a teen-aged girl at Rangiarponta, a village bordering Bangladesh, in Nadia district, police said today.

The 15-year-old girl, a student of class XI, was returning home from a neighbour's house yesterday afternoon when the accused allegedly took her behind a bush by force and raped her.

The constable, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, then threw the girl into a ditch and left the spot, police said.

BSF personnel on duty often roam the village for surveillance of the border.

When the girl did not return home even after dark, her family members started searching for her. They found her lying unconscious in the ditch near the border.

She was taken to Chapra Rural Hospital and went under treatment. Later, the girl herself lodged a complaint with police on Friday night.

BSF authorities came to know about the incident and handed over the accused to the police last night, police said adding he was charged with rape and attempt to murder cases.
