BSF jawan killed as Pak troops pound Indian positions

A BSF trooper was killed and six, three of them security force personnel, were injured when Pakistan Rangers fired heavily at Indian forward positions along the International Border in Jammu district today, the third ceasefire violation by Pakistan this month.

The Pakistani border guards fired at forward Pittal outpost in Arnia forward area in R S Pura at around 1115 hours without any provocation, a BSF officer said.

Constable Sanjay Dhar, belonging to 192 BSF Battalion, was killed and three BSF jawans and as many labourers were injured in the firing by Pakistani Rangers, he said.

The labourers were engaged in agriculture activity, the officer said.
 

The BSF personnel effectively retaliated triggering an exchange of fire which was still going on, he said.

The injured BSF jawans and civilians were admitted to the Government Medical College hospital in Jammu.

"Pak Rangers not only violated the ceasefire but also resorted to unprovoked firing," the officer said.
