The Border Security Force (BSF) has proposed a series of confidence building measures to Pakistan Rangers, including visits of school children to respective countries, a senior official said.

During a five-day-long bi-annual meeting, held after one and half years, with the Pakistan Rangers in Lahore, BSF DG Subhash Joshi also proposed sector-level meetings at Amritsar and Lahore and sporting activities between the two border guarding forces as a part of the confidence building programme, BSF DIG RPS Jaswal said.

While Joshi led the Indian delegation, Pakistan Rangers (Punjab) DG Major General Khan Tahir Javed Khan led his team at the bi-annual meeting held at the Punjab Rangers' headquarters in Lahore from December 24, he said.

During the meeting a consensus was reached to utilise the available communication channels to check violations at the zero line, Jaswal added.

It was also decided that regular meetings between two border guarding forces, at all levels of command, will be held to ensure maintenance of peace and tranquillity along the border as per agreed norms.

The next meeting of the DGs will be held in New Delhi, India within first half on next year, said he.
