BSF squad leaves for Congo

A 135-strong contingent of Border Security Force (BSF) was today flagged off for rendering civil police duties in Congo.

The contingent was flagged off by force chief Subhash Joshi from the paramilitarys' headquarter here.

The squad has been trained in mob dispersal and riot control techniques, special driving skills, providing aid to civilian authorities and basics on human rights laws.

Democratic Republic of Congo is the third largest country in Africa, bordering Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. Congo has been placed under the United Nations due to internal disturbances in the country.

This is the eighth consecutive contingent of BSF to Congo and it will be deployed for one year.
 

BSF contingents are also deployed in Colombo (Sri Lanka) and Haiti for similar purposes.
