"We wonder whether President's rule is prevailing in the BTC area because the Governor can never issue such directive," BTC member Biswajit Daimary said about the Governor's directive issued last week to conduct "house-to-house search" in BTC area to confiscate illegal arms and arrest militants.

"This is an unprecedented case because the ruling Bodoland People's Front (BPF) of the BTC is an ally of the Congress in the state and if such directive has to come, it will come from the government," he said.

When asked about the directive, Governor Janaki Patnaik said, "I have issued direction to the DGP to correct the law and order situation in the BTC area."

The BTC area in lower Assam has been recently rocked by violence between illegal migrants and local Bodo tribals.

Daimary's comments echoed the strong reaction of the BTC administration to the directive of the Governor.
