Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today criticised the Union Budget as "an attempt to confuse common people in the garb of gimmick" and lack of orientation.

"This Budget is an attempt to confuse people in the garb of gimmick, which has no orientation. It is hollow, anti-poor and pro-corporate in nature," he told reporters.

There was no increase of direct taxes, only to give concession to the rich and the target of indirect taxes was fixed at Rs 20,000 crore with a view to impose more taxes on the common people, he said.

Sarkar said the Centre claimed that highest-ever allocation was done for MGNREGA, which was a "glib version" and added the highest-ever allocation was in 2010-11 fiscal.

"This budget is anti-poor, which protected the interests of the corporate and it will also encourage Foreign Direct Investment," he added.
