The incident occurred in the buffer zone of the national park when a herd of wild elephants attacked the buffaloes, KNP director N K Vasu said.
A mahout who happened to be in the area was caught in between the warring animals and was seriously injured and hospitalised. One buffalo was also killed during the fight.
Forest guards were investigating the incident, Vasu said.
