A building dedicated to chief Constitution maker Babasaheb Ambedkar should be constructed at Porvorim near here in Goa, a BJP legislator demanded in the Assembly on Monday.
Making the demand in the House, the ruling party MLA, Dayanand Sopte, said such a building at Porvorim will fulfil a long-pending demand of Scheduled Caste communities.
"This would be a tribute to the father of Indian Constitution," the MLA from Mandrem said.
Sopte said an organisation, Vishwabhushan Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Sanstha, Goa, has made several representations to the government since 2016, demanding that a 'bhavan' in the name of the Dalit icon be built in Porvorim near the state capital.
The MLA said, in a letter to Goa Housing Board, the social welfare department had proposedto construct the bhavan in a vacant plot spread over 4,000 square metres in Penha-de- Franca village near Panaji.
