A 40-year-old businessman was today shot at by two unidentified motorbike-borne assailants here at Sagrai area under Raina Police Station, police said.

The incident happened this afternoon when Subhajit Banerjee, a rice mill owner from Khandaghosh, was coming out of a local bank, they said.

As soon as he came out of the bank, the two motorcycle- borne persons shot five rounds at him.

Hearing the gunshots, locals rushed to the spot but they could catch the miscreants, police said.

Banerjee was rushed to a private hospital here, where his condition is said to be critical.

Police suspected that the miscreants attacked Banerjee thinking that he might be carrying cash as he was coming out of the bank.
