Bureaucrats can be agent of change: AGMUT cadre officer

Press Trust of India Panaji
Senior AGMUT cadre officer Neela Mohanan today said bureaucrats can be agents of change through their work.

"If you talk to civil service aspirants, 90 per cent will tell you that they want to change the way things are done," Mohanan said while delivering a lecture at the BITS Pillani's Goa campus.

"But one year into service you will realise that what you have been dreaming about is impractical. If you want to change then the dream collapses. But there comes a day you realise that bureaucrats are agents of change," she added.

Often the efforts that bureaucrats put in are not seen in right perspective, she said.

"It's not often that we get a chance to express what we are doing. Coming from the services we often don't get chance to talk about what we do or we intend to do," Mohanan, who is currently working as North District Collector in Goa, said.

Mohanan, who has worked in Arunachal Pradesh and New Delhi, said a career in civil service helps empower to change yourself.
