A burglar stabbed a 15-year-old boy with a surgical blade after being caught red-handed inside the victim's house in south Delhi's Govindpuri area today.

The accused has been identified as Sarfaraz, a 28-year-old resident of Tughlaqabad.

The incident took place at 4 am this morning when the house's owner Mohd Shafiq's son Mohd Danish woke up to visit the toilet and noticed the burglar inside the house.

"As Danish was walking towards the toilet, he noticed a ladder kind of structure leaning by the wall. When he switched on the lights, he found a man inside the house. He raised an alarm following which the burglar stabbed him in the chest with a sharp object.

"Hearing the screams, Danish's father came there and caught hold of the suspect forcing him to release the weapon. Meanwhile, police was alerted and local residents emerged out of their homes and thrashed the accused," a senior police official said, adding that the police team which reached the spot rescued the suspect from the mob.

Police said the accused did not receive any serious injuries and was administered first aid.

The weapon of assault and a mobile phone that Sarfaraz was using as a torch during the burglary has been recovered from his possession, said the police official.

Meanwhile, Danish was rushed to AIIMS trauma centre in a police control room (PCR) van.

Since the boy was unfit to give statement, police registered a case based on his father's statement.
