Sleeping on open terrace to beat the summer heat turned out to be a costly loss for a priest's family near here as burglars struck at their house and decamped with 35 sovereigns of gold jewels and Rs 25,000, police said today.
Thangamani, priest at a Lord Anjaneya temple in Attur, his wife and three children were sleeping on the terrace last night owing to hot and humid conditions inside the house.
When they came down this morning, they found the house had been burgled and 35 sovereigns of gold jewels and 25,000 cash kept in a steel bureau missing, police said.
On a complaint from the priest, Attur DySP Kasinathan registered a case. A sniffer dog and fingerprint experts were pressed into service to crack the crime.
