Burglary in royal kin's house solved, stolen items recovered

The city police has seized stolen gold jewellery studded with precious stones, antiques and other valuables worth over Rs 50 lakh belonging to a royal family here and arrested three persons, including two women, in this connection.

The police said the stolen gold jewellery weighing nearly one kg, stones and other jewellery of two kg and a gold studded Swiss watch of Rs two lakh belong to one Jayanti Samantray, a granddaughter of erstwhile Kanika King.

According to reports, while Jayanti and other family members were away when the burglary took place on December 6 evening.

The Bidanasi police arrested Jayanti's former domestic help Tulasi Das, her cousin Mamata Pradhan and Mamata's son Sunil and recovered the valuables.
 

Tulasi was working as a domestic help in Jayanti's house for over six years and she was dismissed last month and in vengeance, Tulasi masterminded the burglary, Bidanasi police inspector Sunil Kumar Mohanty said.
