State-owned wagon marker Burn Standard today resumed operations at its Howrah unit after a day's suspension of work following a trouble which erupted at the factory on Wednesday.

"The company today resumed operations at the Howrah unit after the suspension of work was lifted last night", DGM (P&A) of Burn Standard G H Nag told PTI.

The suspension of work was lifted by the company following intervention of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The agitated contractual workers had withdrawn their hunger strike yesterday.

Trouble erupted when a senior managerial staff was allegedly manhandled by the contractual workers who were laid-off since December 2013 following decline in the prices of wagons. Some Trinamool Congress local leaders were allegedly involved in the scuffle.

The Burn Standard management had also filed an FIR with the local police station against the alleged assaulters.

The chief minister urged the company management to lift the suspension of work notice and asked them to meet the Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra.

In the evening, the company management met Home Secretary Basudeb Banerjee who had assured all help from the state government.
