: Claimed to be the first of its kind initiative in Tamil Nadu, the administration has launched a 'bus marshal scheme', whereby closed circuit tv cameras will be installed in private buses to prevent anti-social elements go by them and murder political and caste leaders.
Launched by the district collector Ravikumar in and around Sri vaikuntam and other areas in this district, where about 100 murders took place last year, the scheme will also see plainclothes police personnel deployed in the buses, a press release said.
A top official said it was a kind of a 'partnership' between police and bus operators and would help tackle the anti-social behaviour of some caste goondas.
The scheme would also curb the increasing instances of alcohol related violence. Passengers would now feel more secure as marshals would be there, he said.
