The engineering students intercepted the bus, as it was trying to speed away after a hit and run case involving a fellow engineering student Sonam Kumari and set it ablaze, the sources said.
The students retreated to the engineering college campus after carrying out arson, they said.
Senior officials, including the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Pradeep Kumar Gupta and the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Neeraj Kumar went to the spot.
The bus was going to Muzaffarpur from Darbhanga.
