The decision was taken at a meeting of the Regional Transport Authority held at the office of the Deputy Commisioner of Kamrup Metro district here.
Officials said the revised fare would be applicable from November 16.
As per the revised list, the minimum fare in city buses would be Rs 5 for the first four kilometre, as against Rs 4 for the first three kilometre as per the old fare. The maximum fare would stand at Rs 23.
The fares of trackers have also been similarly increased by up to 25 per cent.
"As regards concession for students, senior citizens and disbaled persons, the meeting decided that a high-powered committee would be formed to look into the matter," an official said.
Students outfits had in recent weeks launched a number of protest marches against fare hike.
The RTA also decided to make uniform compulsory for drivers and conductors and make it mandatory for private bus owners to keep their vehicles in good shape.
Use of fare metres would also be strictly enforced with regard to autorickshaws, officials said.
The latest fare hike comes less than a month after fares in long-distance buses were increased.
