Two unidentified persons have tricked a businessman and duped him Rs 19 lakhs in the guise of exchanging old currency notes.
According to police, the tricksters approached the businessman saying they want to exchange currency notes issued to prior to 2005 which the RBI has announced to withdraw from circulation and offered to tender double the amount in exchange of new currency.
The businessman who fell into the trap lost Rs 19 lakh and the duo managed to escape with the booty.
The businessman found out that the currency bundles the culprits gave him in a bag had counterfeit notes.
The Subramaniapuram crime police registered a case and are investigating.
