A 35-year-old businessman allegedly shot dead his wife and 10-year-old son before committing suicide at his residence in the posh Indirapuram area here late last night, police said today.

Initial investigations suggest that businessman Ankur Gupta had a scuffle with his wife, which led to the murders of Sarika and their son Parath. Ankur then shot himself to death, Ghaziabad senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dharmender Singh said.

He said they received a call from Ankur's brother, Ankush, around 1.30 AM yesterday that the bodies of Ankur, Sarika and Parath were lying in a pool of blood.

Ankur, who deals in handloom business and owned a factory in the Masuri Industrial area of the district, lived with his wife, son and brother Ankush in a flat of Orange County Society in Indirapuram's Aahinsha Khand area.

"On information, a police team rushed to the spot and found Ankur's body on his bed with a .315 bore pistol by his side. Parath's body was found on the floor and Sarika was lying in a pool of blood in the bathroom," the SSP said, adding that "their TV was on with high volume".

Ankush told police that when he returned home from work, he found the door open.

Police said they had found three empty bullet shells from the spot.

"We have found broken laptop, mirror and also hairs in Ankur's bedroom which indicates that Ankur and Sarika had a scuffle. Besides, Parath's body was found well-dressed which also suggests that Sarita had dressed up Parath to go out after the scuffle," the SSP said.

Police, however, have not ruled out the possibility of murders committed by another person and are investing the case from all angles, he added.
