Businessman Ashish Maskara was on his way to deposit some cash at the SBI branch in Nalbari's Hari Mandir area when the two youths came on a bike and fired at him this morning, they said.
Maskara died on the spot following which the two assailants took away Masakara's bag, which contained over Rs 15 lakh cash, and fled away from the spot.
Police have launched a manhunt to nab the culprits. They are also investigating if the attack was carried out by some militant outfit or professional looters.
Meanwhile, shops and business establishments in Nalbari town have been closed by local traders in protest against the killing.
