Suspected activists of the ultra outfit PLFI shot dead a businessman in Pidihatu village under Murhu police station area in the Naxal-affected Khunti district, a senior police officer today said.

Laced with fire-arms, the ultras arrived in the village in search of one Sohrai Sawansi last night and dragged him out of his house before pumping three bullets in him in front of his family members, district SP, Anis Gupta said.

Sawansi, who dealt in electronic goods including mobile phones, was killed instantly.

Gupta did not rule out the involvement of PLFI activists as Sawansi had been in jail in the past in connection with a case related to the (Maoist) and was killed as the outfit suspected him of being a member of the rival group.

Meanwhile, a dawn-to-dusk bandh called by Khunti Chamber of Commerce today in protest against the gunning down of a transporter, Birendra Jaiswal, evoked good response in the district.

Majority of shops and markets downed their shutters in support of the bandh called demanding immediate arrest of the culprits who were still at large.
