A businessman and his wife were shot at outside their house by four unidentified assailants when the couple resisted a robbery attempt in Kavinagar area here, police said today.
The incident happened when Anuj Garg was returning from his shop late on Saturday night.
"When Anuj was getting out of his car, the four armed assailants who arrived in a car held him at gunpoint and asked him to hand over his bag containing over Rs one lakh," a senior police officer said.
When Garg tried to resist, they opened fire at him, the officer said, adding that hearing the gunshot, his wife Deepa rushed outside the house.
"She tried to rescue her husband, but two of the assailants opened fire at her. The gang then fled from the spot with the bag," the officer said.
Police said Anuj sustained a bullet injury on his back while his wife suffered a bullet wound on her leg. The couple has been admitted to Sarvodaya Hospital in Ghaziabad.
Sleuths are probing the case and a manhunt has been launched to arrest the four accused.
