The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has congratulated star shuttler Saina Nehwal on her appointment as a member of the International Olympic Committee's Athletes Commission.
"On behalf of the BWF Council and Badminton family, we would like to express our congratulations upon your appointment as member of the IOC Athletes' Commission. It is surely a great honour to have been personally appointed by President (Thomas) Bach," a signed letter, sent to Saina by BWF President Poul - Erik Hoyer and Secretary General Thomas Lund, said.
In a rare honour for an Indian sportsperson, Saina was been appointed a member of the IOC Athletes' Commission. She had received a letter to the effect from the IOC President Thomas Bach on October 17.
"We are confident that you will be able to contribute significantly to the Commission in its work which is athlete-focused and you are always assured of our support as you take on this new responsibility. As a member of the IOC Athletes' Commission, you will have the opportunity to play a key role in inspiring many young badminton players to go for gold as well as aspire to serve at a higher level," the BWF letter said.
