The bypoll to the Bhoranj (SC) assembly seat will be held on April 9, Chief Electoral Officer Narinder Chauhan said.

The Election Commission of India has decided to conduct by-election for Bhoranj (SC) Assembly constituency on April 9, and the notification would be issued on March 14, he said.

The last date of file the nomination is March 21 while the scrutiny of nominations would take place on March 22 and the last date for withdrawal of names is March 24, he added.

The polling would be held on April 9 and counting of votes would take place on April 13.

"With the announcement date for the bypolls, the model code of conduct has come into force in Hamirpur district from today," Chauhan said.

He said there are 75,719 voters in Bhoranj(SC) Assembly segment including 37,514 men and 38,205 women voters.

The seat fell vacant following the demise of senior BJP leader, Ishwar Dass Dhiman in November last year.

Dhiman had won this seat six-time in row. He was elected to the Vidhan Sabha for the first time in 1990.
