Byari language day observed

Karnataka Byari Sahitya Academy observed 'Byary Language Day' at the academy office here today.

Byari is a language without script spoken mostly by Muslims in southern parts of Karnataka and Kasaragod district in Kerala.The first film in the language, also titled 'Byari' and directed by Suveeran had won the national award for best film in 2011.

The language observation day ceremony was presided over by Academy president B A Mohammed Hanif.

Mangalore University college principal Sathyanarayana Mallipatna, who spoke on the occasion said the contribution of the Byari language was really unique.

Badriya pre-university college principal N Ismail and Al Badriya Educational Institution chief B M Mumthaz Ali were present.
 

Abdul Aziz Baikampadi, Ibrahim Thaneeru Bhavi, B A Shamshudin Madikeri, Raheem B C Road, Ismail Moodushedde, Hamza Malaar and Mohammed Sharif Nirmunje were honoured for their contributions to Byari literature.
