By-election to Dholpur Assembly seat, which fell vacant after BSP's B L Kushwah's membership to the Legislative Assembly was terminated, will be held on April 9.

Gazette notification will be issued on March 14 and the last date for filing nomination is March 21. The deadline for withdrawal of nomination is March 24, Chief Election Officer, Ashwini Bhagat said here today.

The polling will be held on April 9 and the counting will be done on April 13, he said.

The Dholpur assembly constituency has 1,82,162 voters, including 97,095 males and 85,067 females. There are 219 polling booths.

The byelection was necessitated as Kushwah's membership to the Rajasthan Assembly was terminated after he was sentenced to life imprisonment on December 8 last year.

Kushwaha was found guilty of executing the murder of Naresh Kushwaha which took place in 2012. He was elected from Dholpur seat on BSP ticket in 2013. Last month, Kushwah's wife Shobha Rani had joined the BJP.

Dholpur is the home town of Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and the BJP has started preparations with ministers doing rounds of the constituency and revamping developmental works.
