The Election Commission today decided to hold bye-election to Noksen (ST) assembly constituency of Nagaland on September 4.

The Commission announced the schedule of election after taking into consideration various factors like, festivals, electoral rolls and weather conditions.

The notification for the bypoll, which will kickstart the election process, is to be issued on August 10 and the last date for filing nominations is August 17.

After scrutiny on August 19, the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is August 21. Polling will be held from 8 AM to 5 PM and counting of votes will take place on September 7.

The electoral rolls of Noksen (ST) constituency have been revised with reference to January 1, 2013 as the qualifying date and have been finally published on January 10.

The Commission has decided that the voter's identification shall be mandatory in the bypoll and Photo Electoral Roll (PER) shall be the main document of identification of a voter. However, in order to ensure that no voter is deprived of his/her franchise, separate instructions will be issued to allow additional documents for identification of voters during polling.
