The bypolls for Gomia and Silli assembly constituencies of Jharkhand will be held on May 28 and counting of votes will take place on May 31, Chief Electoral Officer L Khiangte said today.

The two seats fell vacant following disqualification of two JMM MLAs---Yogendra Mahto and Amit Mahto---following their prison sentences in different cases.

The voting will take place from 7 am to 3 pm, the CEO told reporters.

He said that candidates can file their nomination papers from May 4 to May 10.

May 11 will be scrutiny while withdrawal of nomination is scheduled till May 14, he added.

The CEO said VVPADS will be connected with EVMs. In the VVPADS, the name of the candidate and the candidates election symbol will be displayed.

During counting of votes VVPAD and EVMS would be compared and any disorder could be ascertained, Khiangte said.

Security arrangements are being made for peaceful conduct of elections, he said.

The outcome of the bypolls would not have any impact on the health of the state government as BJP-AJSU alliance enjoys majority in the 81-member Jharkhand assembly.
