Bypolls to Maharashtra, K'tka legislative councils on July 25

The notification for the by-polls would be issued on July 7 and the last date for filing nominations will be July 14, the EC said.

After scrutiny on July 16, the last date for withdrawal of nominations is July 18.

While polling would be held on July 25 between 9 AM to 4 PM, counting would be held the same day at 5 PM.

The lone Karnataka Legislative Council seat going to polls fell vacant after the death of state Higher Education Minister V S Acharya on February 14 following a heart attack.

Acharya was attending a function in Bangalore when he collapsed on the dais and died. His term was to expire on June 30, 2014.

 

The term of office of 11 members of the Maharashtra Council, elected by members of the Legislative Assembly, expires on July 27 following retirement of the members.

Among the members whose term is expiring are Manikrao Govindrao Thakare, Parshuram Prabhakar Uparkar, Arunlal Govardhandas Gujrathi, Sayed Quamruz Zama, Rajan Krushna Teli, Ushatai Motiram Darade, Sayyad Pasha Patel, Ulhas Shivram Pawar, Keshavrao Lakshamanrao Mankar, Jayant Prabhakar Patil and Pritamkumar Sampatrao Shegaonkar.
