The main opposition Congress today formed a new working unit comprising around 150 members keeping in view the municipal polls to be held by year-end.

Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee chief Bhupesh Baghel announced the new working unit, with a treasurer, six vice presidents, 13 general secretaries and 48 secretaries.

Ramgopal Verma has been appointed as treasurer while veterans Bodhram Kanwar, P R Khunte, B D Qureshi, Ghanaram Sahu, Balkrishna Pathak and Shanti Salaam have been made vice presidents.

Premsai Singh, Devwrat Singh, Padma Manhar and Chhaya Verma are among the new 13 general secretaries.

Besides, presidents of district units too were announced.

"The new working committee is balanced and will strengthen party's position in coming days," senior Congress leader Ajit Jogi told PTI.

"A better team is needed for better working of the party. I hope this team will do a good job and take party to new heights in coming days."

Congress faced a debacle in Lok Sabha elections. It also lost badly in last year's assembly polls. The dismal performance had prompted demand for formation of a new working unit.
