The Opposition Congress today accused Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh of trying to influence government officials with a dinner party at his official residence ahead of the Assembly elections.

The state Assembly polls are slated around year end.

Raman Singh had organised a dinner party last night at his official residence in honour of the officials and police personnel who accompanied him during his recently concluded Vikas Yatra. The party was attended by government functionaries, including senior IAS and IPS officials.

Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson, Shailesh Nitin Trivedi has written a letter to Chief Election Commissioner seeking action against organising such events just before elections.

"IAS and IPS officials play a crucial role in elections. Collectors act as election officers in their respective districts. With a month ahead of beginning of the election, CM Raman Singh organised this dinner party for the officials. This is sheer attempt to influence the government machinery," Trivedi said.

The electoral process has begun in the state, he said while requesting the EC to impose a ban on such events.

Trivedi also sought an immediate action on the chief minister's alleged attempt to influence the election process and officials.
