C'garh: DRG jawan injured in encounter with naxals

A District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was today injured in an encounter with naxals in a dense forest in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, police said.

The skirmish took place in forests between Mudvendi and Karka villages under Gangaloor police station limits when a team of DRGwas out on a search operation, Deputy Inspector General of Police (south Bastar range) Sundarraj P told PTI.

The patrolling team came under heavy firing from ultras between Mudvendi and Karka, around 450 kms away from here, that led to exchange of fire.

Security forces retaliated strongly following which naxalites fled from the spot, he said.
 

"Head Constable Shyam Durgam sustainedminor injuries on his left knee and right eye in the incident," said the DIG.

After receiving information about the encounter, reinforcement was rushed to the place and the injured jawan was shifted to district hospital where his condition was said to be normal, he said.
