Dr G R Dhaneliya (55), a health officer, was today killed when his car rammed into a roadside tree on the Umarkot-Kondagaon road in Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon district today, police said.

Dhaneliya was the chief medical officer of Kondgaon district.

The accident took place at Bhagdeva village under Kondagaon police station limits this evening, additional superintendent of police Nivedita Sharma told PTI.

He was returning from an official inspection. He apparently failed to negotiate a sharp curve and the car hit a tree, leaving him dead on the spot, the ASP said.
