An election for recalling elected chairmen of two municipal bodies will be held under 'Right to Recall' in Chhattisgarh.

In accordance with the Chhattisgarh Municipalities Act 1961 that gives a voter the 'right to recall', the Chhattisgarh Election Commission has initiated the process to recall chairpersons of Saria municipality in Raigarh district and Vishrampuri municipality of Kondagaon district, an official here said.

The State Election Commission has recommended the government to conduct polling under the process, he said.

In this line, the process of preparing voters' list in both municipalities has been initiated.

The collectors of the concerned districts have been directed to ensure the completion of publicity of publication of voters list, appointment of authorised employees and their training, providing format of voters list and recall poll related information to MP, MLAs and corporators by March 13.

The motion for right to recall against Vishrampuri municipality chairperson Suman Markam and Saria municipality chairperson Kamla Swarnkar, was passed recently for their alleged under-performance.

If more than half the total number of voters favour the recall, the elected position of chairman will be nullified, the official added.
