C'garh: Two killed by elephants in separate incidents

Two persons, including a woman, were killed in separate incidents of elephant attack in northern Chhattisgarh, forest officials said on Tuesday.

The incidents occurred in Jashpur and Raigarh districts on Monday evening.

In Jashpur, a 65-year-old Thunthuni Bai was killed by a pachyderm in the forest near Eib river in Narayanpur area when she was collecting mushrooms, said Krishna Kumar Jadhav, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Jashpur division.

In another incident, 75-year-old Kalindar Rathiya was attacked by four elephants in the forest near Krondha village under Dharmjaigarh forest division in Raigarh, a forest official said.

Several incidents of human-elephant conflict were reported in the past from thickly-forested northern Chhattisgarh which consists of Surguja, Surajpur, Korba, Raigarh, Jashpur, Balrampur and Korea districts.
