A 70-year-old villager was allegedly hacked to death by naxals in Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district, the police said today.

The incident occurred on Sunday (August 19) night in Dabba village, around 200 kms from state capital Raipur, a local police official said.

A group of armed naxals, belonging to Mohla LOS (local organisation squad) called Chaituram Tulavi out of his house and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, the official said, adding that Tulavi died on the spot.

The official denied that Tulavi was associated with the police.

"According to villagers, Tulavi was active in cultural and religious activities in the area," he said.

Police have registered a case and a search operation is on to trace the ultras.
