Chhattisgarh government today formed the Law Commission to suggest changes in laws as per the geographical and social requirements of the State.

Justice (retd) L C Bhadu of the High Court will be the chairman of the one-member Commission, whose tenure will be of one year from the date of his taking the charge, official sources said.

The new Chief Secretary Vivek Dhandha, in his first order after taking over the charge, issued the notification about formation of Law Commission.

Chief Minister Raman Singh had on February 26 announced in the Assembly about formation of the Law Commission.

He had said that some laws in the state were in force since it was a part of Madhya Pradesh and became obsolete after Chhattisgarh became a new State in 2000.

"Some legislations need to be altered according to the geographical and social requirements of the State," he had said during reply on the discussion on Appropriation Bill in the House.
