The awards were presented at a function last night for their outstanding contribution in the field of inspired and resourceful journalism in India.
However, noted TV personality Karan Thapar, who has also been chosen as a recipient of one of the awards instituted by C H Mohammed Koya Journalism Award Trust in association with the Calicut Press Club, could not attend the function and would receive it later.
State Panchayat Minister, Dr M K Muneer, son of late Kerala chief minister Mohammed Koya, introduced the award winners.
While Thapar got the award in the television category, Gopikrishnan, who did a series of investigative reports on the 2G spectrum scam, was chosen in the print media segment. Rajendran is the Deputy Editor of Mathrubhumi.
Past winners of the award include Barkha Dutt, A G Noorani, S Jayachandran Nair, T J S George and Praful Bidwai.
