Utpal Parrikar, son of late Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, has hailed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB), calling it a step towards correcting the "historical wrong".

Taking to Twitter, he also said that the Bill was a "direct consequence of partition on religious lines".

"#CAB2019 step towards correcting historical wrong," he said in a tweet on Wednesday.

In another tweet posted on Thursday, he said, "Need for #CAB2019 is a direct consequence of partition on religious lines. If congress accepted large territories of the country to become Islamic Republic, It had duty towards protecting minorities living in those lands."

The bill, which seeks to provide Indian citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, was passed by the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. The Lok Sabha passed it on Monday.
