A 25-year-old man was killed allegedly by a relative of his wife in Hyderabad's Trimulgherry area, police said Sunday.

Nanda Kishor, a cab driver, and the accused were consuming alcohol Saturday night and an argument ensued following which the former was killed, an official said.

The accused assaulted Kishor with a stick and smashed his head with a boulder and fled, the official said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Zone) Kalmeshwar Shingenavar said the victim had an inter-caste marriage in 2011 and had a three-year-old child.

However, the couple had a dispute recently following which the wife came to her parent's home to stay and the victim had gone there to speak to her kin, he added.

Queried on whether it was a case of honour killing, the DCP told PTI that a probe was on and it was too early to arrive at a conclusion on the cause of the killing.

A case of murder had been registered and a hunt was on for the accused, he said.
