"The recommendations of the Environment Ministry and the Ministry of External Affairs on India's position on upcoming Climate talks in Doha have been fully approved by the Union Cabinet," a source said.
An influential climate grouping in which India and China are members has already said that the Kyoto Protocol will remain a key point of negotiations in Doha.
The Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) sets binding obligations on the industrialised countries to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases.
Climate change officials from Brazil, South Africa, India and China, also known as the BASIC countries, who met at Beijing this week have underscored the importance of an effective and legally binding second commitment period through a ratifiable amendment to be implemented from January 1, 2013.
The BASIC countries want a second commitment period of Kyoto Protocol and it should be an eight-year period from 2013 to 2020.
