NCP Backward Cell chief Prakash Gajbhiye also said the party would hold protest demonstrations if the government failed to take a decision.

"It is regrettable that we have to agitate for a befitting memorial for the man who gave us the Constitution," he said.

Gajbhiye also demanded that the nearby Dadar railway station be renamed as 'Chaityabhoomi'.

Dalit parties in the state, including RPI faction led by Ramdas Athawale, have been demanding that Indu Mill land be handed over for Ambedkar's memorial. Opposition Shiv Sena, RPI's ally, has backed the demand.

Congress corporator Sunil More yesterday demanded that a memorial of the late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray also be constructed within the Indu Mill premises.

MNS corporator Sandip Deshpande endorsed the demand. Another Congress corporator has demanded that Dadar station be renamed after Thackeray.

Shiv Sena leaders, on the other hand, have demanded that Thackeray's memorial be built at the nearby Shivaji Park, where his last rites were conducted.
