CAfrican Republic journalist killed in fighting

A local reporter died of his wounds today in Central African Republic as the nation remains torn by sectarian violence, colleagues said.

The death is believed to be the first of a journalist since sectarian violence erupted in December.

Desire Sayenga died today after being shot twice and left for dead on Tuesday, said Brice Oundagnon, a colleague at their newspaper Le Democrat.

Another local journalist, Rene Padou, was wounded in a separate attack and remained in critical condition today.

Last December, Christian militants known as anti-Balaka stormed the capital to overthrow the Muslim rebel government, which stepped down in January.
