Cage placed to trap leopard

: Forest department officials today placed a cage to trap a leopard in Bhavanisagar forest division, which had killed goats reared by farmers over the past few days.

Acting on complaints of about two goats being killed by a wild animal, presumed to be a leopard recently in Rajannagar area in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve and Nanda farm in the same forest division, STR Joint Director Arun visited the area and arranged for placing 10 cameras at seven locations to track the animal.

Meanwhile, another goat was killed and a sheep badly mauled by a wild animal in the same area.
 

Sub Collector, Gobichettipalayam Krishnan Unni visited the spot.

Forest officials advised villagers not to venture out alone in the area during evening and night.

Some villagers formed groups and are patrolling the areas carrying sticks and crowbars.
