Cal HC to move WB govt for fast track courts for rape crimes

"The Chief Justice has given direction to move the state government for establishment of sufficient number of permanent fast track courts for trial of rape cases and other cases involving crime against women," Registrar General of the High Court R K Bag said in a statement.

It said that the Chief Justice has taken urgent measures to expedite trial of cases pending before district courts and also the high court in view of the huge pendency of rape cases and cases involving crime against women.

Justice Mishra has also directed all district judges for identification of one or more courts of additional district and sessions judge in each district and important sub-divisions for disposal of rape cases within four months, he said.

 

The courts would be presided over by lady judicial officers and manned by lady staff members as far as practicable.

The courts identified for trial of rape cases and other cases involving crime against women would be inaugurated on January 23, the statement said.
